Congratulations to Javier de los Santos, winner of the 2009 Denver Classical Guitar Society Debut Competition!
The second DCGS Debut Competition was very successful. There were six well qualified and well prepared guitarists that competed during the semi-final round. Of that group of six, four were chosen by the judges to move on to the finals. Of the “Final Four”, three were chosen as prize winners.
Javier de los SantosThe winner of the competition was Javier de los Santos, whose prize includes $500 and a debut concert on February 6, 2010 as part of the DCGS Concert Series, runner up was Patrick Sutton who won $250, third place winner was Jeffrey Gleason who won $100, and the fourth finalist was Nicholas Palan.
The amount of repertoire each contestant had to prepare and perform was impressive. While not quite enough material for a complete concert, it certainly proved to be a challenge worthy of young professionals.
The crowds for both sessions were a bit smaller than expected, but they witnessed an impressive amount of high level guitar playing. We are grateful for everyone who attended either or both sessions.
The judges were Jeff LaQuatra, Dr. Robert Klimek, Jason Olson, Jim Bosse, and Danny Gorklo. They had a difficult task in making choices of “what performer would present the most effective concert”, and they did a great job. Many thanks to them for a job well done!!!!
The competition was held at the Colorado School of Mines LAIS Music Building in Golden. The space was prepared by the SOM Kappa Kappa Psi Music fraternity, and they provided plenty of water and soda and were gracious hosts. We are grateful for their participation and thank them and their faculty sponsor, Dr. Robert Klimek, for being a big part of the success of the DCGS Debut Competition. We also thank Linda Klimek for providing snacks for the judges, competitors, and audience members.
